James Dondero is the founder and principal of NexPoint, a leading alternative investment platform. With over 30 years of experience in credit and equity markets, real estate, private equity, and other investment areas, James is a seasoned entrepreneur, business leader, and philanthropist.

NexPoint’s platform offers a diverse range of alternative investment solutions designed to address the evolving needs of investors. The firm’s offerings span multiple asset classes and strategies, including REITs, interval funds, credit, equity, and a business development company.

Under James’s leadership, NexPoint has expanded into a network of businesses, including NexPoint Real Estate Finance, where he serves as President and Chairman, and NexPoint Hospitality Trust, where he acts as CEO. He is also President and Chairman of NexPoint Residential Trust, which specializes in acquiring, managing, and selling multifamily assets. Additionally, James is Chairman and majority owner of NexBank Capital Inc., a financial services firm providing institutional, commercial, and mortgage banking services.

As a passionate philanthropist, James is committed to advancing education and strengthening his local community. He serves on the Executive Board of Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business, where he founded the NexPoint Tower Scholars Program. He is also a member of the Executive Advisory Council for the George W. Bush Presidential Center. James supports numerous Dallas-based organizations, including the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep, the Dallas Zoo, and Education is Freedom, among others.

James graduated with high honors from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a dual major in accounting and finance. He is a distinguished member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi.
